Overtone detail and a sense of air

Institute of Violin is tuned around the violin’s rich overtones. Its design focuses on the detail of the mid and high frequencies, and the sense of air and space around the instrument.

Within an in-ear design, its tuning seeks to convey bow–string friction sounds, fluid transitions between notes and subtle changes in tone. The aim is a vivid listening experience in which the articulation and continuity of a phrase remain perceptible.

For dedicated instrument listening

The Institute Series is intended for researchers of instrumental music, professional musicians and music practitioners, and dedicated enthusiasts. Piano and Violin each place the sound of one instrument at the centre of their design and tuning.

This focused approach involves trade-offs in how other music is presented. We recommend choosing each model primarily for dedicated listening to its corresponding instrument, with that specialised purpose in mind.

Construction and materials

The Institute Series builds on Basic with tuning dedicated to individual instruments. Both models use brass and enamel faceplates.
